DEFENDER SET FOR SURGERY | 11 Dec 2008
Central defender Paul Huntington is set to undergo groin surgery.
The former Newcastle youngster will go under the knife next week in a bid to cure his long-standing injury.
The 21-year-old, who scored twice in the pre-season friendly against FCV Dender, has made just seven appearances this term and hasn't featured since the Carling Cup win against Hartlepool United in September.
Hunty had made one aborted comeback in a behind-closed-doors game at Thorp Arch, and now faces the prospect of an operation.
United boss Gary McAllister explained: "Paul will have an operation next week.
"He's not been an option to us for a long time. I've seen calls for him to play, but he's been struggling and if he doesn't feel fit in his own mind and can't prepare mentally to play it isn't right.
"He's seen a specialist and he's had scans, but he's not happy so he's having the operation to see what they find. Then hopefully he'll come back in good shape."
